1. No-Fly Zones

There’s been plenty of talk about No-Fly zones this last week or so. They’ve been oversimplified on the internet.

Touted a simple solution to a complex problem.

In reality, a no-fly zone means NATO effectively entering a war with Russia.

2. Sanctions on Russia

Russia is being hit hard by economic sanctions.

Sanctions basically mean hitting Russia economically. Not buying gas from them, seizing foreign accounts and properties of Russian oligarchs, and also cutting Russian banks from the international banks’ messaging system - SWIFT.

SWIFT doesn’t actually do any transfer or holding of funds, but it’s an critical part of the communication infrastructure that enables cross-border money flows. It’s a key part of the global financial system’s plumbing, if you will. So why is it in the spotlight right now?
